Character Profile: Kessler

This is the indefatigable Jake Gyllenhaal, whose face served as the inspiration for David Kessler. Much like Matthew Broderick he possesses a boyish charm but with Jake there is a gleam of experience in his eye. He's a very natural looking man, and that's what my character is just an average heterosexual Joe with a wife, kids and a job.

His role in the film Zodiac(seen here with Robert Downey Jr.) helped cement his face with that of my character. His eagerness and youthful zest really captures what David is all about; problem solving.

This photo really captures the roughness of Kessler, his natural youthful father look. I wouldn't like to think of Kessler as a complex character, he's in all essence the archetypal detective who follows his gut. not to say that there isn't any depth to him, he married young with his high school sweetheart, went into the police academy, and waited awhile to have kids, there nothing really singular about Kessler that makes him stand out, although he is in every way a means to an end. He is an important character but not a very good one in my opinion. And who knows, maybe his interest in Ronnie may not be related to the fact that he reminds him of himself.
